Polls and projections

Is the projection a prediction of the next election?
No. It shows the seats parties would win if the election were held today, with our polling average's shares. Opinion can change a lot before election day, and polls themselves can be off.
How often is it updated?
The projection is recalculated every Saturday from the polls published by then. New polls are added to the tables as they come out; the line under the projection says when it was last updated and how many polls are new since.
Why does the projection differ from the latest poll?
Because it's an average of many polls, weighted by how recent they are, their sample size and each pollster's record. A single poll can jump around; the average moves more slowly.
A small party isn't in the polls. Why does it still have a share?
Some pollsters don't list small parties separately. Rather than count them as zero, the projection keeps their last election result until polls start measuring them.
How are the seats worked out?
With each country's real rules: the national shares are applied to every district's last result, then seats are divided district by district with that country's formula and thresholds. The full method is on the Methodology page.

Results and maps

Where do the results come from?
From each country's official election authority. Every source is listed on Data Sources.
Why do some countries only have a map?
Each country is added with its full results and real electoral rules, which takes time. Every country already has its map; results, polls and the simulator follow one country at a time.
Why does a district show no result for an old election?
Borders change. Older elections are drawn on the map of their time when we have it; where an area can't be matched, it's left empty rather than guessed.

Using ATLAS

Is ATLAS linked to a party or a campaign?
No. ATLAS is independent, and every party is shown the same way.
Can I share the images?
Yes. Poll and projection images can be downloaded and shared; please keep the source on them and mention ATLAS. See the Terms of Use.
Can I switch between the dark and bright look?
Yes: under Settings, at the top right of every page. Your choice is remembered on that device.
I found a mistake.
